Healthcare Workforce Shortage

Solving Direct Support Professional Burnout

Working Towards Better Staffing Solutions

At GoodLife U, our solution to the DSP and healthcare workforce shortage is to help educate key stakeholders at all levels. Our team is constantly designing, testing, refining, and teaching next-generation service approaches.

We focus on where we want to be 20 years from now, rather than on making incremental steps to improve non-desirable service models. We are creating new models that are easy to replicate and disseminate, and building the scale that’s used for measuring success across the industry.

We are championing a culture where change is welcomed by partnering with open-minded and forward-thinking agencies and walking them through each difficult step in moving from antiquated approaches to the cutting-edge direct care services of the future.

Utilizing Technology in Services

Our work centers on developing models that support increased independence for individuals with disabilities. At GoodLife U we specialize in using technology solutions to fill in staffing gaps to provide more affordable 24/7 support. Our iLink systems are designed to allow organizations to remotely support staff and residents or deploy in-person support when help is needed.

Championing CMS's Final Rule

GoodLife U partners with organizations to help pave the way for self-direction, choice, and safety to be balanced with the least intrusive, most effective care models for individuals with disabilities.

Complex Change Management

Our work involves a variety of conducting stakeholder education seminars, networking with policymakers and state lawmakers on the barriers the disability industry faces, working with Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), and providing general support to agencies who are not sure how to migrate to next-generation care models.

Why We Do This Work

  • For Our Loved Ones

Our innovation stemmed from a place of desperation and determination. Our founders were driven to deliver community access, inclusion, and high-quality care to their loved ones who were medically fragile and vulnerable and who were consistently marginalized and forgotten.

  • For Our Industry

Our industry faces some major challenges and needs the hope we can offer. We continue to benefit from this steadfast partnership with KU-ABS and have a storehouse of credible researchers, teachers, and experts ready to help.

  • For the Future

Our vision to bring about the next best thing means our work will never be done. However, we do this work proudly alongside the organizations interested in paving the way to a better future for the care industry and the individuals it serves.

The process to implement new schedules was HARD for staff and managers, not knowing all of the ‘why’ behind the changes being made. BUT NOW, those same staff are speaking up about how happy they are and about how their quality of life has improved tremendously. We even had a manager share that this week was the first time her schedule didn’t include direct care hours she had to cover – and stories like this are all over the place. I am so grateful we didn’t let the challenges of change keep us from all of the rewards.

What we learned from the GoodLife team about schedules and pay strategies has made a huge impact here. We are still facing an uphill battle with the DSP crisis, but we feel armed and ready. Next we are preparing for integration with iLink, which is extremely exciting. Our industry faces real challenges, but partnering with GoodLife has been positive and empowering.

About GoodLife U

GoodLife U was developed from the collaboration of GoodLife Innovations and the University of Kansas Department of Applied Behavioral Sciences. As a care provider, GoodLife was no stranger to the pain of staffing shortages, competition from other industries, unsteady schedules, vacancies, and work-life balance. Over the years, we leveraged our partnership with KU to develop new, innovative workforce solutions that we share with other agencies through our consultancy.
